The scientific literacy is an important component of man's quality. In addition, scientific spirit is the symbol of today's society, being the motive force for initiative and exploiting the world. The task of nurturing one's scientific literacy is on the shoulder of the science subjects in schools. Being part of science teaching courses in school, chemistry's responsibility is to nurture the students' science literacy.The first part of this thesis is to analyze the importance of nurturing one's scientific literacy in chemistry teaching. To realize the strategy of "strengthening our nation with science" and " lasting development" needs different human resources; to fight against "Falun Gong" also depends on the scientific spirit. But in our traditional education, we put emphasis on conferring knowledge, overlooking the importance of skills, method training and nurturing scientific sprit. From the above analysis, the necessity of training one's scientific sprit has become an urgent demand for chemistry teaching.Through the study of science theory, this thesis puts its focus on the exhaustive expound of the essence of scientific literacy and scientific sprit. The core of scientific literacy can be explained as the basic quality and competence for adopting the students to social developments and perfecting themselves after they have received proper amount of knowledge. It includes science knowledge & skills, scientific method & ability, scientific behavior & habits, scientific sprit, attitude and value standard. Scientific sprit is the soul of scientific literacy and it has become prominent representation of the time's spirit. The peculiarity of the inquiry teaching decides its crucial influence hi nurturing the students' scientific sprit. Taking specific cases as example, this thesis gives a detailed discussion to how to analyze one'sscientific spirit.The inquiry teaching in forming the students' scientific spirit prescribes high demands for teachers. This thesis provides specific evidence for these demands. With the premise of the improvement in teacher's literacy, the command of the students' scientific spirit will get comprehensive improvement.Reality has improved that in the chemistry course in high school, to promote the inquiry teaching will produce great influence to nurturing one's scientific sprit. It will not only improve one's level in scientific sprit and scientific literacy, but also being helpful in training elites in every aspect.
