On The Diversification Of In-service Training Of Teachers In Private Schools In Macao

In 1991, the Macau Government issued the Fundamental of Education (Decreto-Lei n 11/91/M), which stated the requirement for teachers. Nowadays, most teachers in Macau possess a professional qualification. However, since the beginning of the twentieth century, many countries have thought highly of the life-long education. In this case, teachers are demanded to be continuing professionally educated. To teach an individual how to learn spontaneously, instead of the traditional teaching method which is to teach what a person has to know, has become a trend.Science and Technology have been highly developed in this century. The whole world is being unitized no matter in the aspect of economics or of education. Simplex systematic teaching method can no longer content this rapidly changing world. Multiplex and comprehensive education has become the mainstream of this century. Education should help individuals to be self-developed and self-motivated and provide them a chance to be educated consistently. Therefore, a multiplex continuing professional education to teachers has become more and more important.Under this circumstance, how to develop a multiplex education system for teachers in Macao is explored in this paper. Possible methods and schemes are studied in the hope of enhancing the standard and extending opportunities of the professional education to teachers in Macao.The following are studied in the paper:1. The history of multiplex professional training to private school teachers in Macao.2. The situation and problems of the multiplex professional training to private school teachers in Macao after the Handover.3. New development of the professional training to teachers in Macao in this century.
