Since 1990's, China's higher education is being diversified. The diversification of the hierarchy and category bespeaks that of the curriculums, the graduate specifications and the teaching approaches as well. Therewith, the diversification of the administrative regulations and the appraise system is boosting and being further constructed. Besides, its booming development can be felt intensely with the vigorous evolvement. Does the trend, the persistent diversification count for? Is it irreversible? From what perspective should we view the development, analyze the variety of the students' study motive, and our expectation to the higher education improvement? How to reform and transform the mechanism of the development? How to construct a new system to meet the demand from both the society and the individuals as well? The essay is to probe into the issues.The higher education massification and universalization assures the diversification. While the diversification implies more than the change of the scale, hierarchy, structure or the mode of running the institutions, which just meets some demand. It accelerates and embodies the massification and universalization. In another word, a well-rounded and excellent higher education system of massification and universalization is a byword of diversified one. The diversification indicates that the higher education is turning into an approach for the individual's self-improvement. It also provides the possibility to exert one's potential and merit. It roots in the values shift and reflects the full respect to the individuality.Its core value lies in the notion that the development of higher education should be based on the demand from the human beings, the respect to the individual choices and the personality. It pursuits in the individual's personality perfection and marches itself to propel the individual progress.The first step when constructing the diversified system is to transit the value system, to focuses on the individual improvement. It is the culture construct in nature, which is led by some values and aims to improve the individual's initiative. The process of the diversification parallels with the process of culturalization, which reflects the importance of the individual development, the value of the society democratization. It connotates the revolutionary change of the academic value. Besides, it shows that the merit of knowledge comes to be valued and fully accepted.There is no fixed set for constructing the system of the diversified higher education institutions. It is characteristic of the nationality respectively. The construction should be a conscious process during. The first step when constructing the diversified system is not only to transit the value system, to regulate the government's function and the administrative regulations, and to grant the institutions autonomy as well. Hence, democratization is the indispensable base for the diversified higher education system construction. It is in the developing democratic society that the higher education strides towards the diversification, which the mass are provided with.The essay focuses on the diversification of the higher education and studies its construction and signification by viewing the significance of the higher education in promoting the life merit.The essay is composed of seven chapters and other parts as abstract, introduction and the postscript. The introduction brings forward the issue, diversification. Besides, it presents the provenience of the study, the literature quoted and the approaches taken by the writer. The seven chapters are arranged as follows: Chapter 1 probes into the essence of the development of the diversified higher education institutions by expositing the indispensable diversification. The core value of the diversification lies in that it not only reflects the importance of the personality development, but takes it as the aim to improve the higher education. The diversification is, in essence, to construct the culture steered by some values. Chapter 2 discusses the signification of the diversification. It is a process of culturalization and democratization.Chapter 3 is the comparative study by analyzing the current trend of the diversification. The writer takes the higher education diversification in the U.S.A. as a model and pierces at its experience and enlightenment by analyzing its cause, modality, trait and the prospect as well.Chapter 4 sums up the diversification practice and analyzes the current problems we are confronted with by setting forth the goal, structure, system and mechanism respectively. Chapter 5 probes into the theoretical issues in the diversification development.Chapter 6 spells over the essential goal and its construction. Chapter 7 reflects on the basic strategy for the diversification and thinks over how the higher education meets the individual demand and perfects the personality.
