In order to put into effect the gist of the Central Committee of the CPC and the State Council's Decision on Furthering Educational Reform to in all round way Promote Quality Education, to unremittingly uphold the guiding ideology of Health First in school education, and to continually improve the students' health, the Ministry of Education and the Sports Administration of the State jointly worked out and enforced a test scheme for the Health Standard for Students' Constitution. Having respectively adopted the methods of literature, experiment, mathematical statistics and questionnaire, the author of this paper, on the basis of his study on the formation and development of the indicator system in the body constitution research at home and abroad, took a population sampling test of students in six elementary and high schools in Ningbo and Jiaxing Cities, Zhejiang Province. A total of 6,141 students participated in the test, and were 51,858 useful data obtained. The author conducted experimental studies respectively on body configuration, physical functions and body constitution in terms of the Health Standard for Students' Constitution, to verify and improve the indicator system; also he studied the applicability of the standard, and then put forward an assessment standard suitable to the experimental schools in Zhejiang Province. The study of literatures of constitution indicator system at home and abroad suggests that constitation research should combine to health, which is an inevitable trend. The indicators of body configuration are an integral part of the health assessment on student constitution. This paper discusses the consistency between the improved Quetelet's index method, and the standard weight-to-height-rate method by using body configuration indicators set forth in the Health Standard for Students' Constitution. The results of the consistency study indicate that the two methods are highly related to each other. The results of relativity study on physical function indicators of the Health Standard for Students' Constitution show that the terrace test assessment index, which reflects the cardiovascular function, is not sensibly related to the vital capacity index, which reflects the pulmonary function.A statistical analysis is made on the percentages of person numbers with various points on the basis of the physical functional indicators of the Health Standard for Students' Constitution. The findings are: the performance of standing long-jump, reflecting the strength of lower limbs, of primary school students in Zhejiang Province, is higher than the national standard, while that of high school students is lower than the national. Basically, the standing leaning rest performance and specific gripping power index are higher than the national standard, indicating that the students in Zhejiang possess certain superiority in body agility and muscle strength of upper limbs. Overall, thepoints are lower than the national standard in the exercises of successive going-through and jumping back, 50 m running, toe-touch, and cross-quadrant jump, which show that the students of Zhejiang are comparatively inferior to the national standard in the qualities of speed, explosive force and suppleness. After analysis and discussion on the indicator system of the Health Standard for Students' Constitution, this paper adopts the normal percentile method to establish a relevant standard. This standard may be regarded as a basis for the educational agencies concerned to make their decisions; also it may be used for reference to improve and perfect the Health Standard for Students' Constitution.
