Teaching materials of track and field is the main part of teaching content which occupies an important place in the classroom teaching of P.E. But a lot of facts show that most of students dislike it ,and the academic records of students is also not good. Leaving aside the generalcharacteristics of track and field, this paper try to discuss the deep-seated causes why students dislike the track and field. Lacking of sociality and small opening to the public is regarded as the cause that it can't obtain the students' sense of identity. Meanwhile, combining it with the learning style of students', some suggestions were put forward to weaken the shortcoming of the teaching material of track and field. the main conclusion of this paper is⑴studying of track and field is one of the best solution to improve students' health, students dislike it mainly because of its lacking sociality and small opening to the public. ⑵self-education emphasizes subject participation, and it is beneficial to both the studying of track and field and the change of learning style, so it should be used in the teaching.⑶cooperative learning emphasizes exchange, and it can both form good atmosphere of studying and meet the needs of "adult-like" feeling of the students. it is beneficial to the studying of track and field ,so it should be used in the teaching.
