Learning Difficulties Research And Teaching Strategies On High School Math Symbols

ON account of the actual difficulties met with by senior students in their studying in order to solve them with prequently used mathmatics symbols as a point of assault.In oeder to find out the actual problems in their studying maths symbols,I have done my research on the 18 students from 3 grades in our school ,who stand for three levels -A (high), B(middle) and C(lower),by enquiring them face to face , doing examation papers and observation in class. Besides,I have done thorough self-questioning from my teaching angle . To check the universality of the problems , I have done another test in my class.With the aid of some theories "the dual character of maths conception" by Sfard, the theory of "expression-contact" by James Hibert and Thomas P.Carpenter , and the theory in Constructirism and Psychology, I have , in this thesis , carefully analyzed the reasons why part of the senior students conldn't understand the language of mathematics well:1.During the language understanding period, they lack of actively building the constructure of the symbolic language.2.During the period of soloing the problems by using the symbolic language, they always stop where they have got some specific value or reached some degree of proficiency.Combining my analyzing and others' advanced experience ,I have given advice about teaching reform:l.To build the constructure of the Symbolic language with the aid of this theoretic frame of expression -content.2. To make-students transit their solving problem activities from operation to the structure .3. Help them learn to summarize and get constructive maths conception.4. Strengthen the social-construre of knowledge.5. Teacher should be considerate in standing on the students' position.
