The thesis mainly deals with composition materials in Senior Chinese (Required Course, 1990, People' Education Publishing House) and Senior Chinese (Pilot Course, 1997), observing the development of Chinese composition materials vertically and comparing those foreign representative ones horizontally, guidance system and practice system, then combines with Users' evaluation on material and Senior Composition teaching condition, thus try to find out merits and demerits of the two sets and give my own opinion.The thesis consists of three parts.The first part is analyzing the Senior Composition teaching condition. By analyzing common traits of ancient Chinese composition ones, looking back its development and analyzing those in ex-Russia, U.S. and Japan, we can build up a consulting system made up of Chinese tradition and foreign advanced experience, i.e.. pay attention to the connection between training and life in target system, with social need in training writing skills; stimulate students' writing motives in guidance system, encouraging their writing desires; guide students to observe life in practice system, focusing on the scientific character s in designing.The second part is comparing the two sets through target system, guidance system and practice system. In target system, the required books don't go with Syllabus so much, such as lack of clear aims or disorder in target, etc. In pilot course, though better than before, still is short of clear aims. In guidance system, it seems that exercises are not well chosen and boring, and procedure is not so scientific in required course; however, in pilot course, the guidance exercises are lively, various ways and clear procedures. In practice system of pilot course, exercises-arrangement quantity, intensity and gradient have improved a lot, but still something wrong with its subject designing, etc. The final is the survey on the two sets, which further deepen these discoveries.Based on the two parts above, the third part presents my hypothesis, together with the survey, that one is describing teaching aid clearly; the second is mainly about programmed knowledge; the third is to provide enough quantity, high quality and series of writing environment; the fourth is to introduce information technology on designing. The last is to prospect material reforming by analyzing Multi-media network teaching system.
