"The Criteria for the Biology Course" for the senior middle school explicitly points out: it is important to develop the humanistic spirit among students, to help students to understand the co-relationships between the science of biology, technology and society, to strengthen students' sense of duty on nature and society and to help them to form the right world outlook and values as well. The questionnaires on teachers and students show that although the above-mentioned objective has been reflected in the educational theory, curriculum and new teaching materials, it still needs further study in the respect of teaching practice. In this way can we find out whether the teaching of humanistic spirit has been integratedwith the teaching of the biology. This article targets at studying how to cultivate students' humanistic spirit through the teaching of biology in classroom.Based on the theories of quality education, study of humanism and STS education theory, this article analyses the significance in cultivating students' humanistic spirit in the course of biology, and tries to find out the present situation and achievements of the cultivation of humanistic spirit through questionnaires. The method used here is to study the two different groups at different periods, then to test the results with the "cultivating object questions for humanistic spirit" . The CRONBACH index of inside consistence ( a index) from the self-produced cultivating object questions for humanistic spirit" is 0.8742 which can be highly trusted by examination. So it can be used as the examinational method in the research. This research is carried out hi the course of biology in grade 2 of senior middle school and in the optional course of life biology for the university freshmen. After one term' s teaching, one can conclude:Biology in senior middle school: The first testing class' whole level in the cultivating object questions for humanistic spirit" is notably higher than that of the compared class. And the test results of the former are also much higher than those of the latter in the following three aspects: " self-respect" (Sig=0.006), " self-reliance " (Sig=0.004), " appreciation of the beauty in science " (Sig=0.016).The optional course in the university: The second testing class' whole level in the cultivating object questions for humanistic spirit" has been improved compared to the compared class, but the datum isn' t up to the notable difference (Sig=0.148). Again, the test results of the former is much higher than those of the latter in the following three aspects: "self-respect" (Sig=0.034), "self-reliance" (Sig=0.040), "appreciation of the beauty in science" (Sig=0.005). So we can get the conclusion that though it is difficult to reduce the time of cultivating humanistic spirit from each dimension, which means it is a time-consuming work, it is really feasible to cultivate students' humanistic spirit through teaching of biology in classroom.
