Middle school geography activity is a new kind of course with the idea of integrated activity course. This new course will achieve the aim of middle school geography teaching together with book teaching. But it is a pity that the study on this course just stays on the surface of extracurricular activities.According to the investigation in the author-living city, lots of schools, teachers, students and their parents don' t know the functions, characteristics, implementations etc. very well, or they can' t understand them systematically. So in middle schools, some problems appear in geography activity course. For example, the course doesn' t have a clear aim, the implementations can' t attain a predetermined position and the arrangement is loosely organized. Even the course offered is at will. All of them have influenced the effect of geography teaching.Based on such a background, it' s very valuable and instructive to put forward the research for the geography activity course.From the point of view of students, the thesis divides geography activity in middle schools into three categories: experiencing, exploratory and problem-solving styles. Experience geography activities are based on the process of obtaining perceptual knowledge as well as the process of learners' own study experience, that is experience in some specific and realistic geography facts and surroundings. This kind of activityis most widely used in teaching practice. It can be further divided into two classes: direct experience and simulated experience. Exploratory geography activity refers to in narrow sense experience activity, applicable for the exploring knowledge in geography field. It aims at discussing and mastering the ways and approaches of obtain scientificresults instead of learning and memorizing geography knowledge or conclusion. The result of the exploration can either be a success or a failure, so the evaluation should stress more on the process than the result. Problem-solving activities is one which studies and researches the social problem in geography field and its application can better reflect the comprehensive feature of the geography activities in class. On the basis of new geography curriculum standard, these three forms of activity embody the spirit of it as to alter the study ways of students. This is where the essay' s originality lies.In the last chapter of the thesis, three activities in geography attached with simple comment in the light of experiencing, exploratory and problem-solving styles in the hope of offering some help and enlightenment to other geography teachers in middle schools.
