The Ability Of Graduate Research Study

Postgraduate' s scientific research ability is the ability that is needed by postgraduate seeking truth from all kinds of disciplines. It mainly includes six elements: innovatory ability; the ability to find and solve problems; the ability to collect and deal with data; logical thinking ability; oral and written expression ability and operating ability. The improvement of postgraduate' s scientific research ability, though affected by inborn factors, can be acquired by educating and cultivating. The cultivating of postgraduate' s scientific research ability is the essential demand of the nature of postgraduate education and the construction of our nation' s innovatory system. It is the key to the improvement of postgraduate education quality, also the common method used by all countries. With the improvement of the cultivating condition of our postgraduates, the education quality has also been improved, so is the scientific research ability of our postgraduates. But it still has some defects which result in the weakness of the scientific research ability as a whole. The causes are the followings: The improper training tendency and the defects in the education system, the management system, the research conditions and the tutors' team. Comparatively, the western has ripe experience in cultivating postgraduates' research ability. They highlight applicants' research potentialities and tutors' role. At the same time, they emphasize improving students' ability by courses teaching, scientific practice and the composing of dissertation. These three are complementary. While higher education institutions in our country want to improve postgraduate' s research ability, they must strengthen the control of these factors and take some measures including establishing core ideas of postgraduate' s research ability, reforming the educating process, improving the system, constructing suitable material and academic environments, strengthening the building of tutors' team and so on.
