Art is one of the important carriers for the culture of the mankind to develop and promulgate. Under the multi-culture background in the world , the art education is undergoing a big reform. At present ,the name of the art subject has changed .In the US, Canada ,Australia ,New Zealand ,etc, The term "ART"has changed into "VISUAL ARTS". It is not only the change of a name, but also the reform of art education conception , the"essential view of art "has been replaced by the "great view of art"in a broad sense. Actually it has prepared the way for the popularization of the art education.As a cultural system, art education is a part of the pattern of the social culture. It fosters capable people and make the social cultural product. In the aspect of concept , it is first the concept of culture . In a narrow sense , culture refers to "essential culture ", It is that there is high level thoughts, science and art, etc. In a broad sense, culture mans "general culture ". It is the collectivity of the daily life of the ordinary people, according to the cultural definition of the culture-anthropology . It includes all the physical culture, behavior culture and spiritual culture. On the contrary, the old educational system of art was concerned with essential culture or essential art . Since 50s in the 20th century, with the emergence of the post-modern-trend of thought, people began to re-evaluate the value of general culture .The process of high-tech and the communication make culture multiple. All the general cultures and general arts ,including high-tech culture , culture of consumption , commercial culture , culture of disseminator, city culture , the people culture ,etc , are regarded as the activities of art and the object of art education . On the other hand ,the definition of the "essential art", including non- western art and culture , is regarded as the activities of the object of the art education and is defined as general art . Therefore "visual art"and its educational concept is put forward.The modern art education basically is the educational pattern of "essential art "that was introduced from the west. When the institute system that is being used till now was introduced ,the new visual experience was absorbed and the classical institutes are altered. The pattern of BAO HAO SI institutes come forth with the thought of art and concept of modernism. The outstanding characteristic is that fruit of teaching and capable people training reflect the need of modern society. China didn't began to turn over to think the system of training capable art people and communicate with the art educational field in the word until its reform and opening , because of the political factors . With the rapid development of the economy in China, the post-modern characteristic of multi-cultures also has appeared gradually in China. It is helpful to push the international understanding forward , to carry the Chinese culture forward, to strengthen the study of temporary visual culture ,and apply the fruit in teaching and alter the traditional pattern of gradually , syncretizing the modern and the traditional."The full-time compulsory education"is the system of popularizing education.It is also the front line to carry out education of accomplishment. While the "education of accomplishment" is mentioned, the function of art education is more attached importance to .Under the pattern of exam education before , there were many aspects that people were not satisfied with in the art curriculum ,such as the integration and variety were not enough. It over stressed the subject center , it over cared and over noticed professional knowledge and skill. To some extent ,it has broken away from the experience of life of the students and it is hard to stimulate the interest for the student to study.
