Improving quality is the main rhythm of educational innovation and deve lopment in the 21st century. In order to make quality strategies and improve educational quality, The quality award, as an important and effective management tool, is generally emphasized by many countries. Quality award aims to popularize quality awareness and boost educational quality through a set of effective fruitful criterion and index system, What's more, by selecting excellence awarding pioneers and setting examples, it stimulates and facilitates the improvement of educational quality and management.This paper analyzes quality award in the view of management. At first, it gives a whole profiles of American Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, China's National Teaching Achievement Award and National Excellent PHD Dissertation Award. The paper not only introduces these awards' basic contents, but also analyzes their operational programs, criterion and index system as well. On the basis of the analysis above, it then studies three key issues of quality award, namely clear aims and supporting system, effective appraising criterion and working program (i. e. working process) , and pursuit of gain superexcellent effect and result. As to these three issues, American award and china's two awards have their own characteristics, but comparing to the former one. the letter two still have some problems, such as imperfect supporting system, incomplete criterion and index system, and too much importance to appraising while ignoring construction, etc. At last, based on Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award's successful experience, the paper finally puts forward several suggestions as useful reference in order to improve quality awards in china.
