Delay of gratification(DOG) refers to an individual's ability to forego immediate rewards, opportunities, or needs in favor of alternative opportunities, needs, or rewards that are of greater value but are more temporally remote. Studies about DOG have investigated its relationship with different variables and found that factors like temporal considerations would influence the choice preferences for delayed rewards. So far, most studies focused on children or adults, few on adolescents .And the methods are experiments or questionnaire respectively ,no combination of these two kinds of method .Moreover although some papers studied the relationship between DOG and the components of self-regulated learning(SRL),no study involves DOG's relationship with SRL on the whole. So the purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between DOG and SRL among middle school students using questionnaires ( questionnaire of DOG and MSLQ) and an experiment. The subjects are students from one middle school in Beijing. Analysis revealed the following results:1.The questionnaire of DOG has good reliability, and is well validated; 2.The DOG is significantly related to SRL among middle school students,so is DOG to different dimensions in SRL but affection;3.Multiple regression analyses revealed that expectation, resource management as well as cognition and meta-cognition strategy contributed significantly to the DOG;4.There was significant interaction among gender and SRL on DOG, male students with high level of SRL better than male students of low level of SRL on DOG;female students with different level of SRL differed significantly on DOG,the higher the better.;and grade has main effect on the DOG , with juniors better than seniors.
