The Academic Delay of Gratification Scale (ADOGS) was made to measure middle school students' academic delay of gratification. The Measurement of Parental Rearing Patterns Scale(EMBU) was adopted to measure the parental rearing patterns. Learning Motivation Questionnaire part of the Motivation Strategies for Learning Questionnaire(MSLQ) was adopted to measure learning motivation.461 middle school students took part in the survey. Based on the analysis ,the author has come to the following conclusion:1. Academic delay of gratification of middle school students showed shewed distribution.2.Academic delay of gratification was remarkably affected by gender and grade. Female students' score was significantly higher than male students; Senior school students score is significantly higher than junior school students.3.The development tendency of academic delay of gratification is unstable.4.Academic delay of gratification were significantly positively correlated with paternal emotional-warmth and maternal emotional-warmth, and significantly negatively correlated with paternal severe punishment, rejection, favouring subject and maternal severe punishment, rejection. That is to say, academic delay of gratification were significantly positively correlated with positive parental rearing patterns, but significantly negatively correlated with negative parental rearing patterns.5.The study also showed significantly positively correlation between academic delay of gratification and 5 aspects of learning motivation, such as intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation , intrinsic control, task value and self-efficacy, and no significantly correlation between academic delay of gratification and test anxiety.
