A Preliminary Exploration into Creating Teaching Situations for Junior High Chemistry ClassesThis thesis explores the educational reform of the teaching of chemistry from theperspective of creating classroom instruction situations. In this thesis first is discussed and analyzed some current phenomena in teaching, then the concept of situational teaching and the peculiarities of chemistry are studied. Then focus is laid on the application and the effect of creating situations in the teaching of chemistry. The teaching of chemistry to junior high school students is the very foundation of learning chemistry at a stage involving relatively not much knowledge of chemistry. Yet, junior 3rd year students face graduation and promotion into senior high school and they are charged with heavy study tasks. It is worth studying how to get students interested in chemistry when they are first introduced to it.One of the theoretical foundations for creating classroom teaching situations is constructivism, which emphasizes the students as the cognitive principal and the active constructor of meaning, and emphasize the teacher as one to teach knowledge in certain teaching situations, to cultivate the explorative and creative ability in students during teaching activities, and to conduct emotive education. Moreover, the educational concepts involving principals and cooperative study theories are also theoretical bases for teachers to conduct the creation of classroom teaching situations.Chemistry is a discipline with rich contents. The creation of teaching situations for the chemistry class could be related to the reality of production and living, or it could be the narration of history of chemistry, or even the teaching of chemistry problems and solutions could be conducted within certain classroom situations. The creation of teaching situations for chemistry classes could involve many different techniques; the ultimate aim is to make chemistry knowledge easy to understand and learn.Clearly, the creation of teaching situations for chemistry classes is not a random business but has to be closely associated with chemistry teaching. Many issues in real lifeare related to chemistry; creation of more realistic situations will vividly engage students and facilitate their acquisition of knowledge: creating more practice opportunities for students, encouraging students to study knowledge, students airing their own views in class, there being division of labor as well as cooperation and joint discussions between different groups. The creation of teaching situations in the chemistry class transforms students' study approach from passive to active, from passive reception of knowledge to voluntary discovery and exploration of knowledge; In this process students' sense and knowledge of science have been improved and correct outlook on life has been cultivated.
