Vocational technical education is an important factor of promoting economic and social development, and the total quality of all vocational technical teachers is connected with the quality of vocational technical education. So the teaching quality and the professional development activities of vocational technical teacher educators must have some influence on accomplishing smoothly the aim and on improving effectively the quality of training pre-service and in-service vocational technical teachers.Firstly, this research used the instrument designed by National Research Center for Career and Technical Education University of Minnesota to survey the Chinese vocational technical teacher educators, and collected data that could be used to develop a profile of vocational technical teacher educators and to describe their preferred professional activities and practices of American vocational technical teacher educators studied by American researchers; Secondly, the findings of American vocational technical teacher educators are compared with those of Chinese vocational technical teacher educators; Thirdly, profile of American and Chinese vocational technical teacher educators, effective professional development models for American and Chinese pre-service teachers, pre-service and in-service teaching learning approaches, expertise of American and Chinese vocational technical teacher educators, activities and practices used in pre-service education and professional development activities of vocational technical teacher educators themselves are compared and studied through different cultural background, analyzing and concluding some similar or different characteristics between American and Chinese vocational technical teacher educators. Finally, some references gained from the research are discussed. I hope that this research will make readers connect the generalcharacteristics and quality of vocational technical teacher educators with vocational technical teacher preparing and training, and will provide a new perspective for our research, reformation and development in vocational technical teacher preparing and training. And also this study will make our educational leaders, educational researchers and teacher educators in career and technical education think and study the vocational technical teacher preparing and training more completely.
