New mathematics curriculum standards of ordinary high schools point out: mathematics is a kind of human culture, whose contents, thoughts, methods and language are important parts of modern civilization .In fact, one of the most important reasons why I mention mathematical culture again is that mathematics has a tendency of separating itself from ordinary cultures. Too much formalization has always been influencing the teaching of mathematics. In recent years school teaching has been influenced by social value , that is, the teaching of mathematics is to cope with all kinds of examinations, achieve good results and get high grades. The quality of math is mistaken for the ability of copingwith tests-what a pity it is! Today, the reform of current curriculum forbasic education forces us to think the value of curriculum for basic education seriously and forces us to rethink the value of teaching of mathematics, in order that by classroom teaching it can present the culture value vividly and excavate the culture function of textbooks and make classes full of culture atmosphere and let students understand math better , forming comprehensive math quality. In this paper, I will research and make comments from the fallowing aspects:1. Firstly, it summarizes several definitions of culture and then explain the idea that the development of math is a history of human inventions and creations; math is a product of human abstract thought; math is a form of main strength of human civilization—so math is an important part of human civilization.2. It will first elaborate the features of Chinese traditional culture: emphasizing physical and psychological training and induction methods. And then it deals with the ancient Greece' s traditional math: emphasis on both proof and scientific spirit. Finally it deals with the different influence on math education caused by the different cultural traditions between the east and the west.3. It discusses the features of math by quoting the ideas of Cai Shanghe and Qi Mingyou: The teaching of math firstly is the teaching of value, then comes to the math characteristics : changing education ideas, stressing the practical use of math philosophy and reconsidering the importance of mat hematic teaching.
