The rapid development of modern science and technology has brought unequaled convenience to our material life, and caused people to regard science as sacred and supreme. However, people are still unaware of the role of history and other humanities which is characterized by latency, lasting effectiveness and perspectiveness. The future function of the basic disciplines is evaluated on the basis of pragmatism, which has been generating strong impact on the traditional view of education and leading education increasingly closer to utilitarianism and pragmatism. In addition, the productive manner of modern industrialization has specialized the training of people in all disciplines. Due to the Pan-instrumentalism, education in China suffered from excessive specialization with an evident tendency to"laying more emphasis on the science than on the humanities". The excessive specialization has involved only a limited number of educatees in the field of history, and has practically weakened and even cancelled history education as the basic discipline of building human culture in people. Misled by"exam-oriented education", the instruction of historical knowledge has become the supreme task in history class, with inadequate or even little recognition of the role played by the humanities in educating people. With the humanistic value of history education being completely neglected, young people have been seriously deprived of humanistic spirit and value-oriented reason, thus being kept from sound development.This paper, based on practice in education, is focused on the understandings...
