| The influences of the Internet on Shanghai middle school biology teaching were studied in the current paper. Based on a large amount of literatures checking, the paper examines and seeks to make readers understand the ways in which the Internet affects middles school curriculum—biology, in particular, and the ways in which the latter responds to the Internet. The paper designs questionnaires addressing the main influencing factors on curriculum for students, teachers, and parents. It also includes detailed statistical analysis of the survey results. At the end, based on document summaries and investigation, the paper builds a model of middle school biology education under the influence of the Internet, and explores the direction in which further research on this topic should proceed. Several conclusions of the research are as follows:1. The fast development of Internet technology has far-reaching effects on a country's education system. Developed countries value highly the hardware and software development of Internet technology and its application to education, especially in basic education. Although China's Internet environment started developing late, but the it isn't too far behind. Plus it is developing fast, and the gap between China and developed countries is shrinking.2. In recent years, the number of reports regarding the Internet and middle school education increased drastically. That issue has become a central part of middle school education research. Current research, reaching almost every level and subject of our education system, includes: Subject & Internet teaching method, application of Internet information on particular curricula, affects and requirements of Internet technology on students and teachers, influence of ther Internet on political and ideological education, and negative influences of the Internet on education and ways to cope with them, etc. The problem, however, is that the research is overly spread-out on different topics, and does not go in-depth. It is filled with much sensibility, but not enough reason; too much qualitative analysis, but not enough quantitative research.3. Based on the survey results, one can understand how the Internet affects Shanghai middle school biology education and how the latter responds to the former. Results mainly include:(1) Computers connected to the Internet are quite popular among students and their families in Shanghai.
