Investigation And Study Of Distance Education Learners In Media Literacy Status

With the rapid development of the four leading media: newspaper, radio, television and internet, media become more and more important in people's life. Media literacy becomes one of the basic abilities of modern citizens, especially for distance learners. Research on media literacy of young people is advanced abroad, However, little has been done in China and few know the term "media literacy." As such, it is necessary to carry out a study in this aspect.Based on the analysis of media literacy's origin, concept and foreign development overview, this paper analyzes the research and practice of media literacy education in China, and it tries to find out the causes of the deficiency in this area from three levels in the first part.In the second part, the author makes a survey among distance learners in some universities. Based on the analysis of the questionnaire, the paper indicates the present poor state of the distance learners and the causes of the current situation.At last, the paper puts forward some strategies from the learner, school and media environment so as to enhance the competence of distance learners. Also it points out the necessity of media education in the future. It is hoped that the findings of the study will provide some implications for future research and practice.
