In recent years, the concept of "social capital" has become a hot topic in the field of social sciences study, and it has caught many experts' interests in sociology, economics and politics and other academic fields. In particular, in the field of sociology, researchers have explored the concept, function and effects, ways to measure social capital and how to build social capital and so on, and have brought abundant research fruits to the theory of expounding social capital and how to exercise social capital in every field of social lives. On the basis of briefly reviewing and analyzing the related literatures, I brought forward my own social capital frame, and independently developed social capital's concept, forms, characters and its three dimensions. The theory of social capital is the guiding theory in this study, and it directly decides all action during the process of the research. In this research, I tried to bring the knowledge on theories and practice of social work into building the social capital. That is to say, how to wield social work theories and practice methods into building the children's social capital in this community. By applying social work's special knowledge and ways in a community in JiNan, I conducted this action research on building children's social capital in this community with the children and their parents. And in the process of action, by participating in their activities and observing their performances, and by deeply interviewing the children and their parents face-to-face, I probed into the roles a social worker can play in building social capital and the approaches to realize the functions, and after that the validity of the research was evaluated. This study is an action research which belongs to qualitative research, and the way of collecting and analyzing information is participatory observation and in-depth interview; and group work as a main way of social work intervention was employed in the practices of social capital building. The reason I chose this kind of research pattern, is that I attempted to apply social work's special knowledge to sociology field to achieve their best theoretical combination. In conclusion I would say that the community building and social development in China need social work interventions, and social capital will play a significant role in the process of the interventions.
