This paper explores the status quo, in-service training of a dozen advanced vocational college (AVC) teachers and studies its theory and practice based on China's relevant policies, previous researches and work realities, realizing that AVC teachers training has a profound influence on AVC teachers'qualities and higher-level experts.According to requirements of AVC teachers from economy and social development, this paper concerns the following subjects: clarification of AVC in-service training concepts and contents; the status quo and major problems of AVC teaching staff and in-service training; the role played by life-long education theory and teacher specialization theory in guiding AVC in-service training. The author presents the guideline for the construction of AVC teachers in connection with experiences from developed countries such as Germany and America: aim to cultivate higher-level technological and practical talents; work out feasible policies according to the need of market economy; put in more effort; produce double-function teachers (teachers who can help students both in knowledge and practical skills); center on the three-in-one interaction of production-learning-research; cultivate teachers with compound knowledge and innovation. In addition, this paper further specifies the criteria of double-function teachers and explores the future requirements of AVC teachers'qualities, thus the developing trend of AVC teachers in-service training.In conclusion, this paper presents some effective ways for AVC teachers in-service training as follows: the combination of long-term and short-term training; the combination of in-service and out-service training; position-exchange training as the major point in order to solve the problem that teachers have no time for training due to heavy teaching tasks; reasonable lay-out for nation-level AVC teachers training bases which can play the radiating and leading role; tasks of Education Department, AVC and teachers to be trained. What's more, Three-in-one interaction of theory learning, skill training and research training is emphasized. In this way, teacher trainees can maximize their knowledge and skills. This paper also briefly analyzes the problem of raising funds for AVC teacher in-service training, hoping that the job will not be affected by lack of funds.
