With the rapid development of urbanization in China since 1980s,millions of rural migrant workers have poured into the cities. Since theend of the 20th century, more and more rural migrant workers come intothe cities with the whole family. The children of rural migrant workersbecome the large and special social group in cities, educational problemregarding the children of rural migrant workers aroused social extensiveconcern. The state and local governments have issued educational policieswhich emphasize the solution to compulsory education of the children ofrural migrant workers is chiefly dependent on the governments and thepublic elementary and secondary schools in immigrant areas.At present, the public elementary and secondary schools in citiesgradually become the main way of going school. But, the academic fieldhas no research deep enough for whether the children of rural migrantworkers in public elementary and secondary schools can enjoy theeducational equality.So, this thesis pays attention to this problem, it can be divided intofive parts. The first part introduces research background, issue raising,and significance and value of research. The second part includes review,clarification of concepts and research design. The third part concludesthe inequalities of the educational opportunity, process of'education andachievement of education after collecting and analyzing regardinginvestigation data and literatures. The forth part adopts academictheories to analyze the cause of the educational inequalities from themultidisciplinary perspective, including current household registrationsystem and compulsory educational system that lagging transformation ofeconomic system, the problem of the policies, dualistic compulsoryeducation and the influence of disadvantaged family capitals on education. The five part puts forward several countermeasures to cope with theproblem of the educational inequalities of the children of rural migrantworkers, including institutional guarantee through institutionalinnovation, instruction of equal and diverse school education and theimprovement of family capitals.
