Physical strength plays an important role in improving the overall athlete's physical potential. To improve the athlete's performance in track race, it is important to optimize the training methods. If the wrong methods are used in training, it is impossible to improve the athlete's performance. Moreover, the wrong training methods may affect the result of the training in a negative way. The training practice has demonstrated that physical strength is closely related to the athlete's performance. Nowadays, more and more coaches and athletes are paying attention to the training of the physical strength. The training methods are becoming more and more scientific. These athletes can develop their special skill even when their physical is not satisfactory. In many countries, the combination of overall strength training and special training methods are used to improve the athlete's performance. Efforts are also made to study this new training method. The effectiveness of the development of the strength of the ankle joints is a major criterion in evaluating the athlete's competence. Therefore, the development of the strength of the ankle joints plays an important role in"magnifying"the athlete's potential. Such traditional training events as leap, hop, stair-climbing and hurdle leaping all help to develop the strength of ankle joints. On the other hand, because of the involvement of the muscle group in this kind of training and its influence on the movement of the joint ankles, the traditional training events do not make athletes improve significantly in his strength. Accordingly, the real effective ankle joints training in its real sense should be carried out with no intervention of other body movement.Currently, few training programs in China are focused on the development of the strength of the joint ankles. There are even fewer affective methods in this area. Although the traditional methods can also help to improve the athlete's overall performance, they give little help in developing the strength of the ankle joints. This research is based on the training program which centers on the combination of new training methods, which might suggest a more scientific training method.Using such methods as literature retrieving, investigating, experimenting, statistics and logic analysis, the author carried out his research on young men's elementary sprint-jump athletes in Baotou No. 45 Middle School, Inner Mongolia. The research, which is a thorough study of the ankle joints training program in this school's sports team, gives the following conclusions:1. The research clearly demonstrates that there is a disagreement on the effectiveness of ankle joints training. Many people cannot tell the difference from the bending training and the unbending training. This problem, if not resolved carefully, will greatly affect the result of the training in a negative way.2. According to the research, the unbending training group plays a positive role in improving students'competence and the research also shows that the bending training group plays a positive role in improving students'competence.4. There are differences between the results achieved in this two training groups. In such events as triple jump, long jump, and high jump, the unbending group has a better improvement in the performance. This shows that the unbending method is more effective than the bending group in improving the athlete's performance.
