Objective This paper investigated the effects of hypoxic training(HiHiLo and LoHi) on reticulocytes and hemoglobin in the national female middle and long distance elite runners. We tried to explore the effective parameters for predicting and evaluating the erythropoiesis function of marrow in advance and the effects of hypoxic training. We wanted to evaluate the status of iron deficiency in the elite female runners during hypoxic training. Methods Thirteen national female middle and long distance runners were divided into HiHiLo group(7 persons) and LoHi group(6 persons) at random. Both groups carried out the daily training program every day. They performed 3 times individual 80%VO2max intensity hypoxic training(at oxygen content 14.7% - simulate altitude of 2800m) every week. HiHiLo group stayed in hypoxic house at oxygen content 14.7% (simulate altitude of 2800m) for 10 hours every night, LoHi group lived in normal oxygen content 21% circumstance, training time is 4 weeks. RET%,RET#,HFR,MFR,LFR,IRF-M+H,CHr,CH,Hb,RBC and HYPO% were measured before hypoxic training and after hypoxic training for 5 days, 12days, 19days, 26days.Results 1. immature reticulocyte parameters in HiHiLo group increased significantly from hypoxic training for 5 days(P<0.01)and maintain the high level which was greater as compared with that before hypoxic training. Immature reticulocyte parameters in LoHi group showed a increasing tendency during the lastest period of hypoxic training. 2. IRF-M+H and RMI significantly increased after hypoxic training for 5 days(P<0.01)and Hb significantly increased after hypoxic training for 19 days. It indicated that the increasing time of IRF-M+H and RMI was two weeks earlier than that of Hb. There was a relationship between the change of IRF-M+H and RMI of and the change of Hb in HiHiLo group. 3. IRF-M+H increased significantly and the ratio of CH/CHr inverted from hypoxic training for 5 days in HiHiLo group, CHr showed a decreasing tendency in HiHiLo group. CHr significantly decreased and HYPO% significantly increased after hypoxic training for 19 days, at the same time, no significance was showed in Hb. No significance was showed on those in LoHi groups 4. Individidual index in HiHiLo group showed 6 athletes coincided with the type of decreasing CHr and increasing HYPO%,there was individual difference in the change of Hb.Conclusion 1. HiHiLo training can enhanced the hemopoiesis functions of marrow during the early period of hypoxic training, LoHi trainng can improved the hemopoiesis functions of marrow through hypoxic exposure time, hypoxic load and training load. 2. Being a sensitive index, IRF-M+H and RMI are interrelated with the change in Hb, which could be effective parameters for predicting and evaluating the hypoxic training. 3. Functional Iron Deficiency existed in the HiHiLo group, but not in the LoHi group. 4. CHr and HYPO% in individuals are the marks of the evaluation of iron-deficient status, it was the difference of IRF-M+H that induced individual variation of hemoglobin in the same circumstance with training intensity, training load and hypoxic exposure time.
