The development of our times calls for democracy in teaching, which requires democratic spirits be represented in teaching as well as a new model of democratic teaching be explored. Nowadays, our basic education is experiencing another round of course reform, offering a golden opportunity to democratic teaching. As an educational ideal and model, the theory of democratic teaching is not out of nowhere but bases itself on various educational philosophy and learning theories at home and abroad, so it has a solid theoretical foundation. Rousseau's naturalism, the democratic education of Dewey and Tao Xingzhi, the learning theory of humanisim and constructivism, and other related thoughts and comments at present make up a sufficient and valuable source for the development of democratic teaching.Democratic teaching is based on democratic educational theory with respect and co-existence as its soul, cooperation, communication, participation and critically-choosing as well as the education for all as its fundamental features and requirements, the quality-based citizen education containing freedom, equality, independence and self-control as its key value and cole element.Democratic teaching combined with history education in senior high school leads to a democratic way of history teaching in senior high school. Considering the characteristics of history and its typicay teaching procedure, the teaching model based on historical facts together with independent research teaching model certainly has an active and effective effect on democratic teaching practice. The key to democratic teaching is a harmonious teacher-student relationship formed in discussions, debates, cooperation online and individual-based teaching. Multifaceted assessment is essential in developing democratic education. The magic in democratic teaching of history is to discover typical democratic elements in history, so history class in senior high school should combine democratic teaching with its teaching procedure so as to influence and inspire students with the systematic knowledge and spirits of democracy and equip students with democratic inspiration, habits and ability as well as to train them to be democratically-educated qualified citizens in a democratic society.To realize democratic teaching and education, the following questions requires considering: Should punishments be kept? Is the teacher explanation necessary? How far can democratic teaching go? All the above-mentioned questions remain to be answered.
