Internet Addiction Among Undergraduates In Taiyuan City, Its Alienation

Like other technology products, technology is a double-edged sword. It brought benefice to people such as convenient information exchange, but it also brought harmful things such as Internet addiction. Recently, there were many researches about Internet Addiction or alienation of college students, but the research about the relationship between them is still rare. Based on previous studies, this research , which provide reference for further study of the psychological characteristics of addiction, explored therelationship between Internet Addiction and alienation of college students. Taking the college students of Taiyuan as participants, the study used the questionnaire survey method. The scales include self-made questionnaire of basic picture on college students using Internet, the Chinese Internet Addiction Disorder Scale made by Shuhui Chen and the youth alienation Scale prepared by Yang Dong. The study investigated the basic situation on college students using Internet and the incidence of Internet Addiction. And the study explored the differences between the Internet Addiction students high and low packet division, as well as differences between Internet Addiction and alienation of the college students. The results show that:(1) Internet Addiction rate of Taiyuan colleges students was 6.3 percent; the average time students spent online is 6.24 hours weekly. The time majority of college students spent is more than six months and the time over a year was more than half. The sites Taiyuan Students used the Internet were Internet cafes and schools room.(2) The college students often use Internet for data accessing, browse news, send and receive e-mail, online games, and less use of cheating and making friends, electronic forums, download software and others.(3) In general, boys'Internet Addiction tendency is higher than girls; sophomore student was significantly higher than freshman students; there aren't significant differences in family.(4) Internet Addiction high and low packet division exist significant differences in the browser news, data accessing, send and receive e-mail, cheating friends, and online gaming, electronic forums, download software and other features. Compared with Low packet,High Packet have more people choose to send and receive e-mail, cheating friends, online games, e-Forum。(5)The differences on college student alienation do not exist in gender, but exist in grade.(6) Generally speaking, the Internet addiction has significant positive correlation exist with alienation, interpersonal alienation, oppression feeling of restraint, meaningless sense, sense of powerlessness, the sense of emptiness, self-alienation and cultural separation, but has not significant correlation with nature sense of alienation. Internet Addiction high packet with more than lower division of human alienation, oppression feeling of restraint, meaningless sense, sense of powerlessness, the sense of emptiness, self-alienation and cultural separation, and in the natural sense of alienation does not exist on the two significant difference.
