Chemistry Curriculum reform advocates"the diversification of scientific inquiry-based learning"and takes scientific inquiry as a breakthrough of the new curriculum reform. High school chemistry curriculum standards calls for further enhancing students'scientific literacy, stimulating students to learn chemistry, respecting and promoting students'individual development, helping students to obtain the necessary chemical knowledge, skills and methods for their future development, improving students'scientific inquiry abilities, which call for inquiry teaching methods that enable students to contribute their own ideas and to pursue their own investigations. In the process of curriculum reform, rich theoretical research results on inquiry teaching have been obtained, teachers also actively explore good inquiry teaching methods. Based on this background, this research aims to sum up the theoretical foundations of cultivating scientific inquiry abilities, the elements of scientific inquiry abilities, training objective and principles, and to summarize our successful teaching strategies and approaches.First, we discuss the necessity and feasibility of training students'scientific inquiring ability in high school chemistry education; analyze the foundation of psychology and pedagogy on cultivating scientific inquiring ability, examine the eight elements of scientific inquiring ability and their influencing factors, investigate the teaching goals and principles of training scientific inquiring ability. We also investigate the current situation of high school students'chemistry inquiring ability through questionnaire survey. Then, based on our teaching practices and literature search, we expound how to train students'abilities of raising questions and forming a research question, to train the abilities of proposing assumptions and conjecture, and to train the experimental ability, we also state how to cultivate students'scientific inquiry ability by means of group learning and chemistry extra-curricular activities. In the practice of teaching, we can make smooth progress in curriculum reform only by making full use of teaching resources and constantly exploring the ways to train students'scientific inquiry ability. In the practice of teaching, we find that group learning can help students to learn from each other, to play each student's strengths and to raise their inquiry learning initiative, chemistry extra-curricular activities also plays an important role in cultivation of scientific inquiring ability, teaching cases are presented to illustrate the approaches to implement the above ways. Most previous researches analyzed the ways to cultivate students'inquiry ability according to the elements of inquiry ability. However, based on our teaching practices, we investigate the same issue by means of group learning, and how to make use of educational resources to enhance students'scientific inquiry ability in chemistry extra-curricular activities, which can provide teachers with references. Our research approach is scarce in previous research. Finally, this thesis is concluded with stating the shortcoming of this research and the possible further research directions.
