Elderly Caring By The Aged Children: An Interim Pattern Of The Mode Of Family Support For Aged

With the improvement of life expectancy and the trend of population aging, more and more families appeared the condition that two generations are all old elderly. The reality of "get old before it gets rich" in our country determines that family pension is still dominant in a long period. In addition, because the far-reaching influence of China's traditional culture of filial duty, it certainly will appear the phenomenon of older children supporting elderly parents (the mode of elderly caring by the aged children).By researching the X community of Shanghai, the author analyzed the status of the mode of elderly caring by the aged children in X community impartially, by the subjects, the contents and the effect. The author indicated that the essence of the mode of elderly caring by the aged children is an interim pattern on condition that the elderly welfare is inadequate. Some people have no choice to adopt this mode. The two subjects, both the al-razzes and the dependent face dilemma that is the conflicts between the supporting parents and self—development of aged children and the contradictions of elderly parents requirement and resources supply imbalance. So we should perfect the elderly welfare and construct a mutual supported system of family support, endowment in pension agency and community support, making it transition to a benign development pattern. And at the same time, we should provide all-round social supports for the existing family of caring elderly by the aged children to relieve the dilemma.
