Social Capital To Promote The Harmonious Urban Community

The proposal of harmonious society indicates the changing of China's emphasis on people-centered concept. Harmonious society is based on a harmonious community, which is the combination of social relationships, common values and standards. A harmonious community not only refers to necessary public facilities and improvement of residents' material living standards, but also includes coordinate management system, strong confidence as well as human interpersonal relationships; meanwhile, it is more important that community residents' complete approval to community enter to the harmonious spirit level. And all those factors which support community development constitute the basic elements of social capital. It can be said that a harmonious community depends on the community's stock of social capital; social capital is an important driving force and ways of achievement for building a harmonious community.There are six parts in this article. In introduction, it explains why choosing this topic, shows the current situation of this topic from both home and abroad, tells the research ideas and methods and points out innovation as well as its inadequacy. Chapter I points out that social capital is closely related to the development of a harmonious community by recalling the first urban communities governance and the evolution of social capital theory, and which leads to the theme of this paper: Seeking non-institutional factors to promote community harmony - social capital. Chapter II mainly expounds the development status of China's urban communities: unharmonious communities are due to the deficiency of community social capital, whose main features as following: crisis of confidence, the absence of consensus standards, inadequate participation of residents, and weaken community relations network. Chapter III describes the building of a harmonious community in Yangzhou City in the concrete practice by adopting the method of case study, which is the base of this analysis of effect of social capital in a harmonious community in the development of community and figured out the specified direction for social capital investment. In chapter IV, it expresses how to enrich the social capital from different aspects such as : effective management, various organizations, culture and the media involvement. Since there won't be a single theory that could solve all the problems in reality, the article pointes out limitations of social capital in solving the problem of disadvantaged communities in conclusion. Finally, the contents of this study were summarized and the summary of the main conclusions were drawn.
