The new curriculum reform has brought new turning points for the new era of vocational high school chemistry teaching. This paper not only explores learning from the formation and development of a historical perspective, discusses the necessity of inquiry learning in school chemistry teaching, but also form the perspective of comparing the developed countries' inquiry learning status, expounds the necessity and urgency of Chinese vocational high schools in carrying out inquiry learning in chemistry teaching. Carrying out inquiry learning in vocational high school, which is the basic requirement of new curriculum reform, is the main way to improve the citizens' scientific literacy, and what's more, it is an inevitable revolution of students' learning style.This paper first defines the concept of inquiry learning. Secondly, it analyzes the elements, as well as the general learning model of inquiry learning. Thirdly, in conjunction with the relevant examples in high school chemistry teaching, this paper further discusses the concrete implementation of inquiry learning, including the exploration of material characters and nature of the chemical experiments.Finally, by comparing students before and after participating in the inquiry learning, the paper proves the improvement of inquiry learning in developing students' in chemistry study and improving their chemical accomplishments. Of course, initiating learning doesn't mean giving up traditional teaching completely; on the contrary, they should complement each other. Having been studied for one year, inquiry learning now has its initial sphere in our school's chemistry learning.
