The rapid development of distance education has brought the scale of run a school and the number of students expanding. Accordingly, the quality of education arouses people's attention. Student support service is the key factor to assure the quality of distance education. The success of distance education in colleges and universities is the perfect learning support service systems and the sound operational mechanism for learning support services. Now, the study of student support service is more refinement, and using more modern services' logos and management method. It is emphasized according to the needs of learners to provide personalized learning help. But the degree of achieving personalized student support service is not well. It is need to study deeply of student support service.This study titled by "Research in Personalized Learning Support in Distance Education", make a general description respectively on the related concepts of personalized student support service, the research status of personalized student support service and the theoretical basis of personalized student support service. It analyzed the development and trend of personalized student support service deeply. Then it points out that the hot topic of open and distance education student support service study is adapted constantly to the changing of the diverse needs of learners.It analyzed comprehensively and systematically of contents of the personalized student support service on the basis of analyzing deeply the self-directed learning theory, adult learning theory and management theory. It contains academic support service and non-academic support service. the academic support service contains learners' features analysis, resource services and personnel service. The non-academic support service contains consulting services, day-to-day management services, technical support services, monitoring and management of learning process, resource services, psychological counseling and assistance, construction of campus culture, career planning guide and so on.Then it analyzed the specific implementation progress of personalized student support service. It contains needs analysis, make targets, services and service process. Needs analysis is the premise of guarantying the implementing effectively of personalized student support service. The needs analysis contains user needs analysis, functional needs analysis and non-functional needs analysis. The target of personalized student support service is the support learning.
