The essence of English teaching is to develop students'ability to use the Englishlanguage. Continuous learning and practice is the only way to obtain the ability. Currentlythe majority of students in the classroom are lacking in practical activities, while theafter-school time has not been fully utilized, students'enthusiasm for study not being fullymobilized and their awareness of autonomous learning remaining to be raised. Informationtechnology is increasingly affecting our English teaching. Both teachers and students agreethat information technology assisting English teaching contributes to improving theteaching quality and learning effects, but teachers fail to maximize the effectiveness ofinformation technology in the classroom, and there is no real change for most of thestudents in after-class learning.In order to deal with the problems above, this study focuses on exploration and trial.With information technology as an aid and the development and implementation of aschool-based curriculum as a means to expand English practical activities in high school,the author carries out exploration and practical applications.The paper consists of six chapters. Chapter I introduces the background of the studyas well as relevant concepts, providing the objective, significance and research methods ofthis study. Chapter II presents the theoretical basis of this study and the application of thetheories in the study. Chapter III is on a survey to the teachers and students in a high school,describing the present situation of English practical activities and the application ofinformation technology currently. The author finds that the awareness of teachers andstudents on practical activities disagrees with their behavior, realizes that informationtechnology can be efficiently made further use of to aid English teaching and thus proposesthe corresponding solution. Chapter IV is devoted to the development of a school-basedcurriculum about English practical activities, introducing the objectives and principles ofthe school-based curriculum development, establishing three parts of the content as well asthe teaching modes, and describing the implementation of the curriculum and evaluationmethods. Chapter V combines teaching modes with teaching cases to analyze and reflecton teaching practice. Chapter VI conducts a questionnaire survey among the teachers andstudents involved in the curriculum development and implementation to ascertain theimpact of the study on the teachers and students.
