At the beginning of this century, the eighth innovation on the curriculum of the fundamental education is spread out leading by the Central Party Committee and the State Council's directlly. As we know, the classroom teaching is an important component of the curriculum system and in which the teaching textbooks is the core material. Therefore, the reformation on the teaching textbooks play a key role in that of the curriculum. Along with the curriculum reform's thorough, our country's fundamental education changed the simplification tendency in teaching material initially, and presented the situation of multi-edition coexisting. Since 2001, five kinds of biology textbooks (published by Beijing Normal Univ. Press, JiangSou education Press, Peoples education Press, SouZhou Scientific Press and HeBei Children Press) are used in junior middle school. However, the multi-edition teaching material's development and uses could be smooth, the textbooks reformation could be implemented and how teachers grasp the new curriculum materials become important questions which the curriculum refom faced.In this study, aiming at providing for teachers to understand the fundamental concepts of the new curriculum standard, facilitate the better use of different new teaching material, master the characteristics of different teaching material and giving the suggesitions in selecting the teaching material compitable with the different regions, the five kinds of biology textbooks above are analyzed and compared with the curriculum standard and the general character and the distinguishing feature are presented. In which the methods of literature survey and comparative analysis are used, and the technical route are collecting the five versions of the junior high school biology textbooks, reseaching the related reports and documents about the teaching materials, analysing the features and contents and putting in order of the collected information. Finally, the previous studie's results are referenced.Curriculum standards is the basis for teaching materials and the《full-time compulsory education biology curriculum standards (trial version)》(referred to as "Curriculum standards") is analyzed deeply with its' basic contents, basic concepts and the requirements for the teaching materials writting. First, we take the "Curriculum standards" as the basic standards and according to the literatuers review, the functional system, the study appraisal pattern, the relationship between the biology and other subjects, and the adaptability of the five kinds of biology textbooks are analyzed and compared with the curriculum standard horizontally. The results show that all of them are compitable with the new curriculum standard. The generality of them and the indivinduality in each of them are expressed as following:the variety of teaching column, the arrangement of teaching exercise is close to the student's daily activities and is in accord with the student's cognizance, paying attention to change student's learnning ways and means, strengthening the idea of eco-environmental conservation and the STS(science,technology and society) education, the rich reading materials of after-school and the synchronization between teaching material and biotechnology development. Althgough the written style and compiling pattern of different textbooks resemble each other, but each of them has its peculiarity in content and there exists differences in arrangement of teaching activity and design of teaching column. For example, each of the textbooks has its characteristic in requirement on the development of student's ability system and the types of after-school exercise; the relationship between biology and other disciplines differ and the design of materials for inquiry learning are quite different. Moreover, the adaptability to the geographical environment is also somewhat different.In addition, the study also summarized the development of biological textbooks and compared the Chinese textbook with that of the foreigner, which is beneficial to understand the basic concept, design ideas, the advantages and weaknesses in ours junior high school biology textbooks, and is positive to promote the teaching research and the textbook construction. The conclusion is obtained as:the variety of the teaching material is important for the fundamental education and the selection of teaching material should be based on the actual situation; teachers must research the teaching material deeply according to the new curriculum standard and promote the development of their professional ability of teaching.
