The research object of this paper is system intregtaion engineer in H Company, and the main task is to how to promote the ability of these engineers. The general process is (1) construct the competency model for these engineers, (2) based on the constructed competency model, put forward the skeleton frame of the aibility promotion system, and design the detailed methods for it, (3) practice with some of these methods in H company, and get some experiences and lessons.To realize the goal, we first do two kinds of research work in this paper. One is the document study. We research, analyse and summarize the theory of ability, ability promotion, competency, competency model, knowledge worker and so on. It will greatly help me to finish this paper. Another is the study of the current situation of the engineers in H Company. We will summarize the features of these engineers, and the key problems in ability promotion.In chapter 4, we use experts to construct the competency model of system integration enginees in H Company. The model is based on ice-mountain model and the main features of these engineers. The model is constituted by (1) hidded quality, (2) potential energy, and (3) work skill, and it is a common and non-quantitative model. The hidded quality is formed by a long time, and can not be changed easily. The potential energy can be greatly motivated by some kind of encourages. The work skill is used to accomplish all kinds of taskes directly. By some kind of methods, it will be promoted easily and rapidly.In chapter 5, corresponding to the constructed competency model and its three modules (hidded quality, potential energy and work skill), we try to propose the skeleton frame of the aibility promotion system. The system is formed by three parts:(1) training, (2) study while working, (3) motivating. The method of E-Learning is mainly used in training by H Company. The goal, way and methods of study while working are also explained here. The motivating is the key point in this aibility promotion system. We analyse and obtain our motivating methods through the dimension of wealth, behavior and spirit. To fit to the small and medium-sized enterprises, this paper emphasizes the behavior motivation, brand motivation, growth motivation and communication motivation.In chapter 6, in order to test and verify the practicability, we will put some of these methods into practice in a department of H Company. By the efforts for half a year, the initiative, responsibility and the ability to fulfill the task can be noticed to be obviously enhanced. Although lacking of the support by the numerical value of the profit, the result is positive and can be approved.
