Study On Agricultural Production Efficiency In Guizhou Province

The development of agricultural economy mainly results from two reasons: one is the growth of input. The other is the improvement of the efficiency of agricultural production. Now, the latter is particularly important. According to empirical analysis, this study explored the factors affecting the efficiency of agricultural production in Guizhou Province and tried to find the factors affecting the efficiency of agricultural production in Guizhou Province, which aimed to provide related opinions to promote agricultural economic development for Guizhou Province.First of all, we constructed an index system of Guizhou Province agricultural production efficiency from the total factor production efficiency and ecological efficiency perspective. Furthermore, we used the data envelopment analysis model to measure Guizhou Province agricultural production efficiency during 1993-2012. Then, we analyzed the factor which influences the agricultural production efficiency in cities and states of Guizhou from the pure technical efficiency, scale efficiency. The result showed during that time, pure technical efficiency contributes a lot to the improvement of agricultural production efficiency. However, scale efficiency is still at a low level. According to the data we had gained, we analyzed redundancy of agricultural production in cities and states of Guizhou, which showed blindly increasing the amount of fertilizer, cannot effectively improve the efficiency of agricultural production, while the redundant input will also bring about the higher cost and environmental deterioration.In addition, this study also used the DEA-Malmquist model to evaluate agricultural production efficiency between 1993 and 2012 in the cities and states of Guizhou, calculating the total factor productivity, technical progress, technical efficiency, scale efficiency and pure technical efficiency. The results showed that the significant important factor is the technological progress. However, we also need to pay attention to the existence of Guizhou province and the national average level disparity in technological progress.According to these results, this study investigated the factors which influences agricultural production efficiency of Guizhou by using DEA-Tobit model. The consequence showed that income level of rural resident, urbanization and industrial structure significantly affected agricultural production efficiency. Specifically, raising the average income of rural residents and accelerating non-rural population can promote the improvement of the agricultural production efficiency and the second industry have significant negative impacts on agricultural production efficiency, while the tertiary industry has no significant impacts on agricultural production efficiency.The innovation of this research is mainly reflected in the following two aspects: the one is the innovation on the study method. From Eco-efficiency perspective, this study constructed the evaluation index system of agricultural production efficiency and used the DEA model to evaluate ecological performance and explored the factors which influence agricultural production efficiency. The other is the innovation of research object. This is the first time to apply this method in the analysis of Guizhou Province agricultural production efficiency and to select the sampling data of municipalities(state) of Guizhou as the decision-making unit in the DEA method, namely, DMU.
