Potassium (K) is a kind of special metal. Its compounds are widely used in industry. The demand is very big. As the largest and most important Potassium metal producer, a certain chemical plant completely depends on manual work to finish potassium manufacturering, resulting in production efficiency and the product quality not satisfactory, and leading to a big security risk. The design of the Potassium production line's automatic monitoring system has important significance to solve the plant's problems.Potassium's physical and chemical properties and potassium production lines's current production status are firstly analyzed. The demand analysis is done based on productive technology analysis and manufacturing process analysis. Considering the system's design requirements and eonomic costs, the DCS system is proposed as the most reliable and economic solution. And the key technologies are proposed too. On this basis the design of the DCS system is devided to three parts:the lower machine design, the control algorithm design and the upper computer design.Siemens S7-200PLC is used as the lower machine. Advantech industrial computer is used as uuuper computer. The lower machine's design work is divided into two parts:the hardware design and the software design. As the design of the upper computer, the hardware selection and the configuration software design are introduced in detail.In the design of control algorithm, fuzzy control algorithm is proposed, for this plant has rich experience on manual control and the controlled object is difficult to establish a precise mathematical model. But PID control is high-precision and low-cost, changes relatively smooth. Different control algorithms are designed for different control parameters.The automation of the potassium's manufacturing process is achieved by the design of the Potassium production line's automatic monitoring system in this paper. The safety, the product quality and the production efficiency are improved. The scientific management of the production data is achieved too. This system represents a useful effort for the improvement of the enterprise's technology.
