Nowadays energy crisis and environmental pollution become increasingly serious. Wind energy and solar energy, which has many properties such as pollution-free, safe and sustainable developmental, have been given more and more attention in recent years. We should vigorously develop wind and solar energy. It can solve the power problem of areas without electricity, and improve my country's energy structure.Firstly, the research status and development tendency of wind/solar hybrid generation system both at home and abroad are summarized. The composition and operational principles of small-scale wind/solar hybrid generation system are discussed. The operational principles and basic features of wind turbine, generator, photovoltaic array, batteries, convertor and controller are introduced.Secondly, the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) are studied. The operational principles and features of several common wind and solar maximum power point tracking methods are analyzed and researched. A variable step disturbance observation algorithm is proposed. Through change the duty cycle of the trigger pulse, it can quickly and accurately track the maximum power point. In this way, we can make the system work in the best condition.Finally, the simulation models such as wind turbine, generator, photovoltaic arrays, Buck-type converters, PWM signal generator and maximum power tracking controller have been established under Matlab/Simulink environment. The simulation study has been carried out to the wind power system, photovoltaic system and wind/solar power generation system. The simulation result shows that the maximum power tracking control can track the system and achieve the purpose of maximum power output when the conditions change.
