As the manufacturing production changes, many manufacturing enterprises need to build new plants to expand production, or optimize the existing production systems. More and more business managers and engineers begin to pay more attention to the facility layout problem. The facility layout includes the design of a new production system and the optimization of an old production system. For the manufacturing industry, whether the facility layout is reasonable will have a lasting impact on the operation of a production system. Therefore, the research on the design and optimization of manufacturing facility layout has broad application prospects.Firstly, based on the research results at home and abroad, the related theories of manufacturing facility layout were introduced, and the systematic layout planning method was explained. Then, through a specific example, the application of systematic layout planning method was described in detail in the general layout of manufacturing plants. In this process, to carry out the analysis of basic elements representative products were selected to simplify the design process greatly.Secondly, combining with the actual situations of manufacturing facility layout, the evaluation system for manufacturing facility layout was designed, Analytic hierarchy process and fuzzy theory were applied to build the fuzzy hierarchy evaluation model. Then using the evaluation system and the model, the facility layout schemes of a new plant were evaluated, and an excellent scheme was selected.Finally, the benchmark to optimize the manufacturing general layout was described. The optimization process of manufacturing facility layout based on genetic algorithms was proposed, and then the design of genetic algorithms was focused on, at last MATLAB software was used to run the program. In the genetic algorithm design process, the SLP method and randomly generated method were combined to generate the initial population, which was helpful to improve the search efficiency; in the design of the selection process the traditional roulette wheel selection was improved, which could prevent the premature phenomenon effectively. Empirical analysis showed that the genetic algorithm in the optimization of manufacturing facility layout was feasible and effective.
