With the economic development, the number of the motor vehicles is increasing in the city. More and more people are concerned about traffic problems and the construction of roads. The Government has invested a lot of financial resources and material resources to research the motor vehicle traffic, but few people pay attention to the pedestrian traffic. This makes the space of pedestrian is encroached by the motor vehicle seriously in the urban road, less and less space for pedestrians walking, and the security of cross the street is not guaranteed. Over time, this will directly lead to the traffic mode of walking that are healthy, environmentally friendly and green sharp reduction. Even if the very short distance travels, people will still choose the vehicle travel, which in turn is bound to make the already very heavy traffic problem worse. Therefore, in the modern society of the resources and spaces are all very tight, the traffic mode of walking is particularly important. Besides that, the construction of pedestrian traffic is low cost, but very practical. If the pedestrian traffic in the city is orderly, and the interference between the vehicle and pedestrian is small, which is also benefit to the smooth flow of vehicle traffic. So, we can see that the while we construct the urban road, we can consider the design of pedestrian traffic, and create a safe, comfortable, and independent walking environment for pedestrians is very important. This thesis mainly based on the characteristics of pedestrian traffic, described the pedestrian traffic from two aspects, which are vertical and horizontal pedestrian traffic. On the vertical pedestrian traffic, discussed the layout and width of the sidewalk, and the three kinds of separation between pedestrian and the non-motorized vehicles on that two basis, respectively from the space design, security design of the sidewalk. Then according to the accessible design of the sidewalk, focuses on the layout of the sidewalk Blind and coordination with the design of the building entrances. On the horizontal pedestrian traffic, this paper divided the traffic of pedestrian crossing into the pedestrians crossing on the urban road section and the pedestrians crossing on the street intersection. Analyzed the design of the pedestrians crossing respectively from the space and time. On the space design of the urban road section, analyzed the set conditions, reasonable distance and the convergence with the bus station of the crosswalk. In the time design, according to the basic principles of pedestrian twice crossing, analyzed the standard of installation the non-signal crossing, the twice crossing, and the signal crossing. On the space design of the intersection, divided the intersection space into the space of waiting to cross the street and crossing the street. Analyzed how to coordinate the two spaces, making the pedestrian crossing distance the shortest and safest. On the time design of the intersection, according to the two deficiencies of the status of pedestrian signal, which the conflict between the pedestrians and the turning right vehicles and not take full use of the margins of vehicle signal. So the paper proposed the standard to set the right vehicle signal, and pedestrian use of left vehicle signal cross the street.
