Optimization Of Deployment And Use Of Shunting Locomotive In Railway Freight Transport

Shunting activity is an important job content of railway transportation production and service. Standing business point of view, not only shunting itself takes great human and material resources, but also its activity process affects the benefits and quality of services of the transportation. In short, the organization work of shunting can increase both savings and profits.In the practical level, the railway transport enterprise in recent years has been exploring the way to optimize the means and methods of shunting organization work. Many of the railway administrations have accumulated some successful experience, and have achieved remarkable economic results. Suming up practical experience and refining the theory of shunting organization work are of great importance to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of shunting activities of the railway companies.Based on the reform of Guangzhou Railway (Group) Company, this paper conducts an in-depth research, discussing systematically the work of the railway shunting organization in the market economy environment. The main work of this article is as follows:(1)Elaborating the connotation and extension of the shunting work; conducting a compressive analysis of the function and role of shunting operation subsystem, as well as its relations with other operating processes; and summarizing the tasks, job requirements, and the basic operation methods of shunting work.(2)Proposing qualitative and quantitative methods to analyse the factors which affect the effectiness of shunting activities with the reality of Guangzhou Railway (Group) Company.(3) Proposing the general principles and basic procedures of locomotive configuration through the analysis of the factors which impact this activity; and proposing the method to determine the number of locomotives for dissolution, marshalling, take-delivery and other typical scenario in shunting work.(4) Proposing general principles and methods of the deployment and use of locomotives in train operation depot through analysing the deployment and use of locomotives in the case study of Changsha train operation depot.(5) Proposing general principles and methods of the deployment and use of locomotives inside train station through analysing the deployment and use of locomotives in the case study of Zhuzhou train station.Based on the background of the railway practice, the paper makes exploratory work on the systemical understanding of freight shunting avtivity, the content of the optimization of the use of shunting locomotives, the optimization method of the deployment of shunting locomotives, and the method of shunting locomotivs. And the case studies show that the theory of optimization of the deployment and use of shunting locomotive is valid.
