After one hundred years of development and accumulation, the modern self-propelled motor grader has become a mature product in engineering machinery, machine performance, reliability, safety and comfort has been greatly improved. Motor grader technology is raising the level of ongoing product R & D results. Domestic flat machine manufacturers have been through technology introduction, digestion and absorption, integration and other channels, so that the Chinese manufacturing industry to obtain the considerable development of motor grader. But both in manufacturing and technology research and development, our country has in fact been walking in imitation of the road, have so far failed to form competitive core technology, independent innovation is less. On the product development progress is slow, R & D efficiency needs to be improved.This paper will discuss how to combine the product development process of the actual problem, in the analysis of the existing R & D process based on the introduction of Six Sigma design process, to guide the actual product development design. Through the use of design for six sigma tools and methods, make on one hand the ground machine research and development period is shortened; on the other hand to ensure that the research and development of new products of disposable fully reach the customer expectations, to avoid repeated development costs, reduce product development costs; by comparing the efficiency of R D and summing up the development effect, to display the professional technology and Six Sigma techniques the organic combination of the test process and design for six sigma process advanced.This paper describes in detail the various features of design for six sigma tools. In the definition stage, using the Cano model of customer needs, and carry on the importance score and ranking; during the measurement phase through quality function deployment QFD, customer needs into product design requirements, and through the competitiveness score positioning existing product competitiveness to meet the needs of customers, find out the critical quality attributes of the CTQ. The important measurement data measurement system analysis of MSA, in order to evaluate the effectiveness of these data, it is more important to determine the need for improved measurement system can be used for measurement of new products. The final product features failure mode and effects analysis of FMEA; analysis stage, through the two order QFD will meet customer product needs into product parts and components design demand. Use of brain storming, level of Comparative Law ( benchmarking ) and TRIZ innovation method, and used in matrix scheme comparison and selection. The design stage, through the three order QFD to key parts of the design requirements are converted into the corresponding process design requirements, and horizontal evaluation. The system design, key components of the parameter design and tolerance design, there is a component failure mode and effects analysis of FMEA; the verification stage, is the main content of design validation and development control plan. This stage is the new products in the completed prototype trial was performed after, through the acquisition of prototype data, verify the product performance of the design parameters and design parameters of parts. The control plan is to ensure that product performance parameters do not deviate from the designed value, so that products can be 100 percent to meet customer expectations. Through the five stages of design for six sigma tools and methods of application, shorten the development cycle of the product, to ensure that product development success, reaching the flat machine product research and development to enhance the efficiency of study. At the same time leveling machine R & D process and other engineering machinery products development process essentially similar, will make the results of this study and other engineering machinery research and development efficiency has a guiding significance.
