Due to great differences of stage of development and other conditions, there is a certain particularity of High-speed railway (HSR) construction in China.The impact of HSR demands domestic scholars of in-depth research from the theoretical and practical aspects. First chapter in this study identified some core issues:in our context, whether HSR hub will bring significant developmentment opportunities to the station area?Is there any case in China? What factors affect the leading role of HSR hub,if HSR hub can bring significant development opportunities to the station area?Are there any threshold value of these factors?Which function type is suitable to layout in the station area?What is the ratio of these functions?Are there any different function-oriented development models?Review by domestic and foreign, the second chapter analyzes the domestic gaps in the field of HSR study.Thus the positioning of this study is clear:research methods base on quantitative analysis, supplemented by qualitative analysis; research focuses on station area development and function types; research concerns mainly for the micro-level HSR hub and the surrounding area.Then, by surveying 2991 passengers of HSR, this paper defines that the impact area of HSR hub in China is 20 minutes walk of passengers. Through empirical study of 17 HSR hubs, we believe:in the context of Chinese national conditions,HSR hub can bring significant opportunity of development to the station area.If the annual development of over 232,000 square meters is defined as HSR hub will bring significant opportunity of development to the station area,this study observes 7 significant cases including Tianjin station. By drawing nodes-places model of "balance" thinking, this section evaluates 17 HSR hub area development.On the basis of obtaining characterization datas of station area development,this paper argues that HSR hub area development factors include the level of urban development,urban space factors,the station's own factors,station accessibility factors,situation factors station area and other.Thus this paper expands the correlation analysis.Studies suggest that city's economic development level, flow of HSR hub itself and the space distance and time distance from the city center are main factors of station area development.Studies suggest the bottom limit by observing seven significant cases. Meanwhile,by sub-category analyzing, studies suggest the different main factors of station area development by city population size. Introducing the theory of urban catalyst theory,this section argues that the HSR hub is an important city catalyst and flow is core resource to drive the station area development. Through continuous improvement of the surrounding elements and energy transfer between elements, it can form a joint response of urban development.Finally,through function types analyzing of 7 significant station area development,this paper sums up 12 observed function types.On this basis, calculated by the proportion of building area, we obtain four main functions of 7 stations area development-marketing, hotel, office and residence, the average proportion of 7.71%,6.95%,25.27% and 56.17%. Therefore, this paper argues (1) under the background of accelerating of Chinese urbanization process and the real estate industry rapid development,housing is still the main function of HSR hub area development; (2) under certain conditions, HSR hub do has a leading role on the office, hotel, business especially on business office function;(3)within the affected zone, a small proportion of other types of function indicating that HSR hub has a certain repulsion of sports, education and scientific research function. Summary of these laws can provide "common" guidance and reference to the function type arrangement of other planning HSR hubs. Based on the comparison of different cases, this section also summarizes four different modes of the observed station area development:balanced type of station area development, business function-oriented station area development, housing function-oriented station area development and trade function-oriented station area development,and analyzes the cause of these different development models in different urban characteristics and station development backgrounds. Analysis of these differences can provide "personality" guidance and reference to the function type arrangement of other planning HSR hubs.
