| In 21 century, China has entered an acceleration stage ofurbanization. Because urbanization is the symbol as well as theinevitable result of economic development and social evolution, it is an irreversible trend happing around the world. However, during urbanization, the rapid development of urban economy and the limitation of urban land resource begin to conflict with each other.With such strong limitation of land resource, how to make it not impede or even facilitate the development of urban economy becomes a big problem cities around the world are facing. If we observe the experience of developed countries' practices in dealing with this problem, we shall see the utilization of underground spaces in the cities would serve as an invaluable way for solving our problem.The utilization of underground spaces in China evolves gradually from the civil defense project. Comparing to the developed countries, we have a significant lag in the utilization and management of underground spaces, and by far there are many unsolved problems waiting. However, the rapid increase of the country's economy is suggesting that there will be an upsurge in utilization of underground spaces recently. How to ensure the utilization of underground spaces in China to be orderly and sustainable is the problem we have to face now.In this paper, we studied the current utilization of underground spaces in Chinas and pointed out the problems that exist. Based on our study, we summarized the management status of underground spaces utilization and we gave some countermeasures that may solve the problems we are facing according to the experiences we learned from cities in developed countries as well as cities from other parts of China. |
