The historic district is the epitome of development of city. The preservation of historic district is a world topic. The historic district of city center is easy to appear many disharmonious contradiction and problems contrast of modern city life. It is urgent to carry on the dynamic protection. Urban design is the important means, which effectively imples the dynamic conservation requirements of historic district in city space. From urban design perspective, this article attempts to formulate space strategy of the dynamic conservation of historic districts in city center and provide a useful reference.Through the urban design research of Xiaoxijie historic district, this paper identifies the urban design range of historic district in city center under dynamic conservation, which includes historic district and the relevant city area. The paper determines that urban design elements includes the material elements of land use, road traffic, city space environment, the construction entity and non-material elements of the traditional culture, the place spirit, social network, living patterns, neighborhood communication. The paper makes clear the target principle and analysis method of urban design and proposes the urban design countermeasure of dynamic conservation. At the same time, combined with Xiaoxijie material elements and non-material elements, this paper builds the present comprehensive evaluation system and establishes five urban design strategies of the functional regeneration, traffic grooming, spatial continuity, style, coordination, dynamic guide, which promotes dynamic conservation of historic district and realizes sustainable development.
