Energy crisis, environmental pollution and urban traffic congestion have become common problems all over the world. As a kind of transport with large volume, high speed and energy saving, rail transport has been the best choice of urban public transport. Compared with subway and light rail, modern tram has some advantages of low costs and short construction period. Meanwhile, it is especially suitable for small and medium cities to solve the urban traffic congestion.Operation control system (OCS), which is one of the core systems, is in charge of safety protection and schedule management. At present, research on the modern tram operation control system (MOCS) is still in its infancy, especially in China. So it is of great significance to research MOCS.In this thesis, the functional requirements of vehicle operation control system (VOCS) were analyzed. And then an integrated design of automatic operation and automatic protection was proposed. On this basis, the elementary prototype of VOCS was developed. Research work in this thesis is focused on the followings:Firstly, business process of modern tram was analyzed, based on it, functional requirements of VOCS were analyzed.Secondly, an integration design of VOCS was proposed, and then functional decomposition was completed. On this basis, interface of VOCS, including internal and external interface, was designed.Thirdly, the software of VOCS function software was developed based on PC104and Vxworks; the human-machine interactive software was developed based on PC and Windows.Fourthly, the wireless communication unit was developed based on microcontroller JN5139with Zigbee protocol stack, including hardware and software development.Finally, the elementary prototype of VOCS was built. Combined with wayside and central operation control subsystems and environment simulation platform (ESP), the integrated debugging of MOCS was completed. The results show that novel VOCS meets the functional requirement of modern tram.
