There is a demand for a better signal source in most of fields, caused by the enormous development speed of modern electronic technology and the increase of varieties testing objects. Study the signal source has good quality, variety and suitable for market needs leads to a positive expectation. As a new type of general signal source, Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG) has some advantages compare to the old type generator, such as, AWG has multiple functions and could been used to output complex signal. In recent decade, it develops in a high speed, widely used in electronic measurement, science research, industrial production, etc.Direct Digital Synthesis-DDS is the third generation frequency Synthesis technology, it has high resolution, fast switch for the frequency, low phase noise, easy to extend and digital integration. It's the basic technology theory of AWG. Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) provides an easy and convenient solution for DDS in reality.In this thesis, Samsung S3C2440 microcontroller as core of system controllor, and FPGA brings into effect of direct digital frequency Synthesis technology, completed the hardware designing and testing of arbitrary waveform generator. It changes the traditional input by keyboard, and increases the touch screen operation. Not only easy to operate, but also able to input waveform through touch screen.This essay contains several aspects as below:The meaning of study AWG, and the introduction of basic theory, includes DDS's principle and performance characteristics of DDS.Carrying out the design as S3C2440 been used as the core of system controller. Touch screen be used as input hardware, and user could input waveform at will.With AWG's technical indicators, it determines the module using FPGA technology to achieve DDS program, also complete DDS design through Quartus II.Completed the design of analog channel. According the DDS's Spectrum feature, designed a 7-order elliptic filter.Finished bottom software drive design based on hardware platform.By passing the system test, it indicates this system could produce sine, triangle, sawtooth, square waves, the highest frequency is 75MHz, could also output 1MHz arbitrary waveform.
