Forest management inventory is a fundamental work of forestry units, it is for the thourough knwoledge of the type, quantity, quality, structure and distribution of the forest. It is a major methodology for dynamic monitoring of forest resources in the management level in our country. Its result is a good representation of current status of forest management, and can be used as important backgrounds to formulate the national economic development program and forestry development planning. Forest thematic maps and statistical tables are the main means to describe the result of forest inventory, they are in distint spatial data layers, attribute data layers and tables in the system, and can be output to paper maps and tables when needed.Although commercial geographic information system provides unified tools for making thematic maps and statistical tables, such as the making of symbols and legends, secondary development are usually necessary to obtain high efficiency for specific applications. While various forestry thematic maps and tables are diffenrent, the content is relatively concentrated and their expression ways are extremely uniform. Moreover, The State Forestry Administration has issued the revision of'Cartographic symbols for forestry maps'in October 2009, it provided a programmatic document of production and output of forestry thematic maps. So long as specific programms are developped, they can be used to quickly produce standard forest thematic maps.This paper takes the standardization and automation of forest thematic maps and charts'manufacturing and outputting as the main objective. Within the frameworks of MapGIS K9, the geodatabase for forset management inventory and forestry thematic symbol library are established. The result compilation module was developed based on MapGIS Objects components development technology. The main result are as following:1. The paper puts forward a symbolic scheme of forestry map within MapGIS K9 platform, and build the forset management inventory database and the forest thematic symbol library based on the'Cartographic symbols for forestry maps', the database for symbol configuration rules are established, and the symbol configuration rules are stored in digital form.2. Forest base maps, Forest Sub-Compartment map, Forest Distributing maps and statistical tables are the most important results of forest management inventory, and provide scientific basis for forest management and decision-making. The forest management invetory result compilation and outputing module is developped with MapGIS Objects components. It has relized the making and outputting of forest thematic maps and charts automatically, and laid solid foundation to enhance work efficiency.3. Remote sensing is important technology of forest resources data acquisition and updating. Since remote sensing data processing and its spatial data management is done witin the general RS and GIS platform such as ERDAS and ARCGIS, it is difficult for forest users to achieve high efficient applications. Secondary development based-on general commercial system platform can greatly promote the informatization level of forestry resource management , and obtain a great-leap-forward development.
