China has made great accomplishments in the teaching, composition, performance and appreciation of vocal music as well as the teaching method and teaching concept in this respect. However, the study on the theory of vocal music lags behind. There is a lack in higher-level theory construction, which cannot meet the demand of vocal art development."The existing scholarship, including books on the voclity techiques or articles on vocal performance and vocality teaching in various journals and magazines,indeed shows depth and originality but they were mostly a summary of personal experience in performance and one can rarely see the research beyond the vocal art itself. It lacks both comprehensiveness and minute planning and has as yet failed form a system. There is not enough in-depth summary of practice that can cover the entire vocal culture, including composition, performance, dissemination, publication, appreciation, teaching and research. Theory's lagging behind has slowed the development of practice and failed to give to full play the academic value of theory.In such circumstance, Professor Yu Dugang starts his research in vocality theory and has made remarkable achievements. His books help to extend to new fields for various disciplines of vocal music, pave the way for the development of vocal culture in the new century and contribute to the development and reform of China's vocality teaching. The conclusion reiterates the influence of Yu's vocality theory research and discusses briefly China's contemporary vocality theory construction and envisions its future.
