As the subject of translation, the translator is the most active factor in the process of translation. However, in the traditional translation theory, the translator was placed in a marginalized position, and its subjective role has for most of the time been neglected in the research of translation. Since the 1970s, as the translation studies have turned to be culture-oriented, the horizon of translation study has been widened, more and more concern has been given to the translator's subjectivity in the western translation circle. Some new translation theories, such as Feminism Theory, Skopos Theory, "Manipulation School" Theory, have not only realized the translator's creative status in translation but also put great emphasis on the display of the translator's subjectivity. At the same time, these theories provide great theoretical support for the study of the translator's subjectivity. The translator's subjectivity refers to the translator's subjective initiative that the translator displays in the translation practice so as to achieve the translation purpose on the premise of respecting the source text. Its fundamental characteristics include the conscious cultural awareness, the humanistic character, as well as cultural and aesthetic creativity of the translator. The translator's subjectivity is manifested in the whole process of translation. It's no exception with the translation of the metaphor in sports news.Metaphor is a common rhetoric in the Chinese and English sports news. The metaphors in sports news which are mapped from other domains can deliver relative sports news, meanwhile because most metaphors are culture-loaded and the cultural information is familiar to the audience, the cultural connotation in the metaphor can bring the readers some relative cultural associations, and can bring the readers some aesthetic feeling. The use of metaphor in sports news is a wonderful combination of the informative function and the aesthetic value. As far as the author has observed, although studies on the translation of metaphor in sports news has been discussed in some papers, few people have studied the translation of metaphor in sports news from the angle of the translator's subjectivity. While translating the metaphors, translators adopt different translation strategies, such as reserving the same metaphorical image, converting the metaphorical image, converting to the non-metaphor etc, thus demonstrate great subjectivities. This thesis attempts to discuss the translation of the metaphor in sports news from the perspective of the translator's subjectivity. The author holds that the translator's subjectivity such as translation purpose, cultural awareness and reader awareness greatly influences his choice of translation strategies. The significance of this thesis is mainly reflected in the following two aspects:1)The study on the metaphor translation from the perspective of the translator's subjectivity provides a new perspective to the study of metaphor translation; 2) The study has proven to some degree that it is feasible to account for the diversity of translation strategies of metaphor in sports news from the perspective of the translator's subjectivity. In terms of methodology, the author adopts descriptive method in order to display different kinds of metaphor and different translation strategies of metaphors in sports news. When analyzing how the translator's subjectivity is manifested in the translation strategies of metaphor, the author adopts the method of analysis. It should be pointed out that the purpose of analyzing different translation strategies of metaphor in sports news is not to evaluate which strategy is better, but to explore the determining role that the translator plays in translating metaphor in sports news.
